“Without help, we would not have made it” – Ivan and Valentyna
A month after the military entered the village of Krasnolyubetsk, Khersonska Oblast, Valentyna left for Kyiv, where she had relatives. She had to overcome a difficult journey through the Russian-controlled territory, including Crimea. Valentyna’s husband Ivan stayed at home. The woman was very worried about him and asked him not to leave the house.
As soon as the military left the village, Valentyna returned. When she arrived, she was frightened by the way her husband looked, because he had been injured.
“I was at home during the shelling, just stepping out of the doorway,” Ivan says. – “The blast wave blew me into the veranda. Now I can’t walk well, I have shrapnel in my lower back. Doctors say the shrapnel should come out on its own.“
Ivan and Valentyna’s house was also damaged by mine fragments, the front door was blown away by the blast wave. Ivan does not want to leave because he is afraid to come under fire. The humanitarian organization International Solidarity provided the couple with money for repairs to support Ivan and Valentyna.
“We were allocated USD 4,000 to repair the roof and windows, and people from our village made the repairs. With the money that is left, we want to improve the facade. Thank you very much. Without help, we would not have made it, because my wife and I are pensioners and have no money,” says a resident of Krasnolyubetsk village.
